- Renewing Your California DMV Drivers License Driver licenses have expiration dates, and it’s important that you keep track of yours: driving with an expired license is illegal. You could be cited by a law enforcement office if you are found to be driving with an expired driver license.
- Applying for new license in California (Expired, past 90 day renewal period) Hey all, So last night I just found out my driver's license is nearly 5 months past expired.
In most cases, you can renew your driver's license by mail or in person at your local DMV office. You'll need to make sure you renew on time, as you may be required to re-take the written and driving tests if your driver's license goes beyond the expiration date.

Hey all,
Ca Dmv License Renewal
So last night I just found out my driver's license is nearly 5 months past expired. Expired on my birthday in June. Confused because I thought renewals were every 5 years, this is only my 4th year on this license.
Anyway, I can't renew it because it's already 90 days past due (see here). Does anyone know if I have to pay a penalty fine for not renewing my license within 90 days after?
Also, I got pulled over in August, 2 months after my license expired. But, cops let me off with a warning with no mention of my expired license. Will this come back to me?
Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
